SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake Chamber presented Jacobsen Construction with the prestigious Legacy Award on Tuesday in recognition of the general contractor’s longstanding contributions to Utah’s business community.

Jacobsen was honored with the special recognition at the chamber’s annual meeting at the Marriott at City Creek in downtown Salt Lake City.

“On behalf of everyone at Jacobsen Construction company I’m honored to accept the Salt Lake Chamber Legacy Award for 2024,” said Jacobsen President and CEO Gary Ellis in a prepared video message. “I’d like to thank the chamber, our partners and our clients for their continued trust and support. Here’s to many more years building Utah together.”

The award is given each year to a company that has “demonstrated exceptional support to advance the chamber’s mission and bolster the business community,” according to a news release from the Salt Lake Chamber.

“Many businesses fail within a few years, but some remain endure and become a part of the community fabric for generations,” said Heidi Walker, chief operating officer of the Salt Lake Chamber, when presenting the award. “These legacy businesses become institutional and provide leadership, demonstrate excellence, showcasing fortitude and providing opportunity for the long-term. We honor their outsized example and success.”

Ellis credited Jacobsen’s 900-plus employee-owners for helping the company stand out by dedicating themselves to excellence as they build the places where life happens in Utah.

“Something very unique about our organization is that we are 100% employee-owned,” he said. “These employees are not only coming to a job every day they are coming because they believe in our mission and our values and what we’re doing throughout our community.”

Ellis also said Jacobsen is fortunate to be headquartered in Salt Lake City because “there is a spirit of collaboration in Utah that is like none other.”

The theme of the 2024 Salt Lake Chamber Annual Meeting was “Discover the Heart of the West,” heralding Utah’s nation-leading economy as critically important to the growth and prosperity of the western United States.

“The business community — all of us — will continue to work together to ensure Utah succeeds today, tomorrow and far into the future,” said Salt Lake Chamber President and CEO Derek Miller, in remarks recapping the past 12 months. “(Utah) will continue to set the example … on how to collaborate, how to respect differing opinions and how to find meaningful that ensure prosperity for everyone.”
