SALT LAKE CITY — Jacobsen Construction has earned the distinction as a Top-100 Green Contractor for the 16th consecutive year, according to a new ranking published by Engineering News-Record (ENR) this month.

ENR’s 2024 ranking puts Jacobsen at 57th, a four-spot jump from the year prior. The company has made the list every year since 2009, just two years after ENR began publishing its Green Contractor rankings.

Jacobsen currently employs 16 LEED Accredited Professionals — project leaders who are specially trained to build according to stringent environmental standards that account for energy efficiency, water efficiency, greenhouse gas emissions, sustainable landscaping, carbon footprint and more.

A few of Jacobsen’s recent green projects are highlighted below:

Astra Tower

The 450-foot tall Astra Tower, Salt Lake City’s tallest high-rise, is being built according to LEED Gold standards (certification pending), with a special emphasis on two environmental issues prevalent in northern Utah: air quality and water conservation. Completion of the Astra Tower is scheduled for December 2024.

The Westminster University L.S. Skaggs Integrated Wellness Center uses photovoltaic solar panels on its roof that more than offsets the building’s energy use due to extra power that can be stored in the panels’ batteries for later use. This makes it a net energy facility.

Architectural Nexus Office Remodel

Jacobsen completed the remodel of the Architectural Nexus Office in Salt Lake City, which in 2024 officially became certified as one of just a few dozen buildings anywhere in the world to become Living Building certified by the International Living Future Institute by meeting the world’s strictest energy regeneration, self-sufficiency and integration-with-nature criteria.
